PEACE JOURNALISM FOUNDATION EAST AFRICA

Conflict-sensitive journalism for Africa

About

Co-founders Sarah Bradfield and Gloria Laker Adiiki Aciro

PJF Uganda was established in August 2014 by a team of Ugandan peace journalists, headed by Gloria Laker Adiiki Aciro, and South African journalist and academic Sarah Bradfield. PJF is a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-partisan multimedia foundation committed to promoting peace journalism as a tool for peacebuilding. We do this by offering specialised training to journalists and media houses. We specialise in the following areas: conflict resolution, cross-border reporting, climate change awareness, and refugee and humanitarian issues.

To date PJF has trained over 700 journalists in the principles of peace and conflict-sensitive journalism in Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda, South Africa and Turkey.

PJF is dedicated to providing training that helps prevent media-induced violence, encouraging journalists to amplify the voices of the vulnerable, and countering negative portrayals of refugees and marginalized groups through ethical and responsible reporting.

Our trainers, led by Laker Adiiki Aciro and Bradfield, are award-winning journalists who have covered war and complex conflicts. Laker Adiiki Aciro is winner of the Luxembourg Peace Prize 2025. Bradfield holds a Masters degree in Journalism and Media Studies from Rhodes University in South Africa and heads up the research programme which aims to contribute to the dearth of academic literature on peace and conflict reporting in Africa.
